Accessibility

Accessibility is a key word in website design. Web pages are assembled with a view to making content accessible to and usable by as many users as possible - ideally everyone. Including the technologically challenged (people with old hardware and operating systems, inadequate graphics resolution, slow connections) and people with motorial, visual and hearing problems.

Our commitment

Accessibility can be assessed to a world standard. On a technical level, you need only comply with WCAG guidelines (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines: www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10) promulgated by W3C (World Wide Consortium: www.w3c.org).
We believe, however, that accessibility of content isn’t just a technical/technological question. What’s at stake is democracy, the freedom to access information and its sources, the founding principles of the internet. Because, in the words of Tim Bernes Lee: “The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect”. This is why Safilo’s site complies not only with minimum accessibility standards but also puts at everyone’s disposal all the major documents regarding its history, business performance and new developments – in short, all the information that should be made public.
To this end, the site is dynamically geared to airing new content and committed to reflecting new developments in accessibility standards.

Requisites

So that a maximum range of different users can view our web pages, we tested the most diverse browsers (Internet Explorer 7 and after; Safari 4; Google Chrome 10; Firefox 3) and at various resolutions. Our pages are set at an optimum 1024x768 pixel.
Text characters can be displayed in three proportional sizes, so that people with sight problems can choose what best suits them. This can be done by simply clicking on the A  A  A link top right.
Images have “alt text” tags providing alternative text descriptions, making the site navigable for blind people with screen readers.
The links you find on the site (external, download and pop up) have short texts describing their functions (just park your mouse on the “link title”).
